About Theta Tau
Welcome to the Gamma Beta Chapter of Theta Tau Fraternity Website!
Fall 2009 Rush begins August 30th. Please see the Rush section of this site for details about rushing Theta Tau.
Theta Tau is the Nation's oldest and still foremost fraternity for engineers. It was founded in 1904 at the University of Minnesota and has since initiated over 30,000 members. It is a co-ed professional engineering fraternity, which combines the best aspects of social fraternities and technical and honor societies, including life long brotherhood, ritual (ideals of the organization), leadership and networking opportunities, and professional development, community service, and social events.
Gamma Beta Chapter of Theta Tau at The George Washington University originated as a local fraternity, Phi Theta Xi, in 1927. Phi Theta Xi was installed as the Gamma Beta Chapter of Theta Tau on March 16, 1935. Later, due to problems with Title IX, the chapter went inactive for years. It was refounded on September 23, 1989 by Lt. Commander Sean Walsh and Dr. Douglas Jones.
Today, Gamma Beta Chapter is an active part of the George Washington University and School of Engineering and Applied Science communities. Brothers hold social events such as BBQs, dinners, and de-stress events. The chapter also goes on tours and invites speakers to encourage professional development.
